Last month, we covered The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and The Vendy Awards (and loved it!). However, since our site isn't only about fashion and food, we wanted to register to cover the upcoming NY Comic Con. We were surprised to learn that the press registration process for comic con is way more sophisticated than fashion week.
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has a 'press' section on their website. If you work in the fashion industry, you can register as member of the press/media. What they ask you for (aside from your basic info): they ask for your website, your title in the company you're registering for, your website's total reach, PDF of your current issue or links to your fashion-related posts.
Registrants are also required to pay a fee of $80 ($100 for late registrations) with a disclaimer that your payment and registration does not guarantee invites. The registration acts as a media directory for designers and PR agencies. Those who register early have the better chance to be selected to attend shows. However, quite frankly, to get in as press for fashion week, all you have to do is ask very nicely.
Of course, it goes without saying that you won't get into a Vera Wang show but you can still attend shows by lesser known designers. This is not the case with NY Comic Con. To get in as press, one must go through proper registration- a lengthier process than fashion week's.
What they ask for: press identification number (and all members of your staff's numbers as well), umv, editor/producer's info, business cards (yours and your editor/producer's), writing samples (if you covered the previous years, the post must be included as well), one must confirm that he/she is on assignment for comic con and registration must be send via fax or in person. However, there are a couple of areas where signing up for comic con is easier: no fee and they actually get back to you.
NY Comic Con will be held at the Javits Center from October 11-14th. Tickets are sold out but feel free to check for yourselves here.
